Day Cummins is a firm of chartered architects and chartered surveyors providing services to private individuals, the public sector, charities and housing associations.
It employs 20 people from its base in Cockermouth.
The firm was visited by training provider Gen2 early last year.
A number of training needs were identified for a learner, who had joined the firm straight from school and who was working as a business administration apprentice.
The courses were available with Edge (ESF) funding. Both courses were delivered at the learner’s workplace during the day.
The company identified that the learner needed additional support for databases such as Word and Excel. Undertaking these courses dovetailed with the CPD that was available for the learner.
The learner completed Microsoft Office Word Processing and Excel Spreadsheet Software courses.
Jane Clingan, administrator with Day Cummins, said: “Our business administration apprentice completed the two courses, which gave her more confidence with the software, made her more knowledgeable when preparing, using and manipulating spreadsheet data.
“She was more accurate and competent when writing letters and reports and required less supervision enabling her to work independently and take greater responsibility for office tasks.
“As a result, we, as a company, have seen increased efficiency and professional ability.”
The learner has since gone on to do other courses.
Jane added: “We would recommend this Edge funded training to other firms.”
